"The Island was originally settled by one of Oliver Cromwell's soldiers named Bodden, who had been at the taking of Jamaica ", H.M. Royal Navy survey, 1773. Named after the first resident Bodden Town was the original capital and home to the oldest building in Cayman, Pedro's Castle in Savannah. Pedro St. James is the actual name for this plantation house and theatre, built in 1780, which became the birthplace of the islands' democracy on the 5th of December 1831. Now one of Cayman's national historical sites, the government continues its efforts to restore Pedro to its original glory. Other areas of historical interest are the Guard House, a defensive outpost of old, and the Pirates' Caves with their subterranean Caymanite formations and authentic artefacts.

The area as a whole is very picturesque with seaside views, stunning cliff edge scenery, mature trees and inland lakes.

This district appeals to first time buyers and young families, because prices for houses are truly affordable from the low to medium range. Canal front properties can be found in Sunrise Landings and North Sound Estates. Beach Bay on the south coast offers dramatic sea cliff properties with a small beach at Sea Spray Drive.
